Summary
A story about Harland Sanders reminds us that age does not define what is still possible. Sometimes the next chapter simply begins with one small step we once believed we were too old to take.

In the mid-1950s, a man in Kentucky looked down at a modest Social Security check and a future that seemed already written. His roadside restaurant had failed after a highway changed the flow of traffic. By the standards of the day, his story appeared finished.
That man was Harland Sanders.
At 65 years old, instead of settling quietly into retirement, he packed a pressure cooker, his chicken recipe, and drove from restaurant to restaurant asking owners to try it. Many said no—hundreds of times. In fact, he was reportedly rejected more than a thousand times before someone finally said yes.
Most of us will never build a global brand like KFC. But that’s not the lesson here.
The real lesson is this: a number on a birthday card doesn’t determine what is still possible in your life.
Your “getting in the car” moment might look much simpler. It could be enrolling in a class you’ve been curious about, volunteering in your community, writing something you’ve always wanted to share, or learning something new from someone younger.
Retirement isn’t the end of growth. It can be the beginning of a new kind of curiosity.
Reflection question:
What is one small thing you’ve been telling yourself you’re too old to try?
Just take the next step this morning.
