Decades of research by Carol Dweck show that learning and growth don’t stop with age. Small steps to feed your curiosity can keep your mind active and resilient.

There’s a persistent myth that after a certain age, our brains stop growing and learning is no longer possible. Research from Carol Dweck challenges that idea entirely.

Dweck found that the mindset we adopt about our own abilities profoundly shapes the way we live. People who believe their abilities are fixed tend to avoid challenges, give up when things are difficult, and feel threatened by others’ success. Those who believe they can grow—even slowly—embrace challenges, persist through setbacks, and continue to improve.

Here’s the encouraging part: age doesn’t stop brain growth. Your neural connections are still forming, and your mind remains adaptable. You don’t need to master anything overnight; even a 2% improvement this week is meaningful.

Small step for today:
Learn one new thing. Look up a word you’ve been curious about, watch a short tutorial, or ask someone younger to explain something you’ve wondered about. Feed your brain—it’s still hungry and eager to grow.

Reflection question:
What is one small thing you can learn or try today that stretches your mind just a little?
