Nobody names a star after the woman who never once turned back, even carrying seizures, even carrying a bounty on her own head.

There is a woman history almost let go unread — Harriet Tubman couldn't read words on a page, couldn't read a map, couldn't outrun the seizures a childhood injury left her with for life. By every measure the world offered her, she had no business believing freedom was hers to reach, let alone anyone else's. So she learned to read the one thing nobody could take from her: the sky.
She followed the North Star out of slavery, and then — this is the part most retellings rush past — she turned around and walked back into danger thirteen more times. Not once. Thirteen. She led roughly seventy people to freedom through the Underground Railroad, moving only by night, trusting only starlight, and she never lost a single passenger along the way. She's remembered for saying that every great dream begins with a dreamer, and that the strength to reach for the stars was already inside the people she led — they simply hadn't been told that yet.
Here's what sits with me this morning: Tubman never had a route planned turn by turn. She had one fixed point that told her which direction was forward, and she kept walking toward it, trusting that the next step would reveal itself once she took it. That's the entire difference between a plan and a principle — a plan maps every turn, a principle just tells you which way is forward.
So ask yourself honestly: what's your North Star right now? Not your calendar, not your errands, not the list waiting on the counter — the deeper thing that tells you which way to walk once everything else stops making sense. It might be the people at your table. It might be your faith. It might be a quiet promise you made to no one but yourself about the kind of person you still intend to be in this chapter. You don't need the whole sky mapped out. You just need one star that doesn't move.
_
A simple step for today:
Write down the one value or purpose that guides your decisions when everything else feels uncertain. Put it somewhere your eyes will land on tomorrow morning without you even trying.
Reflection question:
When your next uncertain moment arrives, what's the one fixed point you'll look up and walk toward?
You don't need the whole map. You just need your star. That's your morning step.
