She could not see the door in front of her, could not hear it creak on its hinges — and still, she became the one who taught the rest of us how to find one anyway.

There is a door in your life you've walked past a hundred times. You know it's there. You've put your hand on the knob once or twice, but never turned it — because not knowing what waited felt safer than finding out. Helen Keller never had that choice. She lost her sight and hearing at nineteen months old, and lived the rest of her life unable to see or hear a single door open or close. And still, she became one of the most fearless people who ever lived.
She once wrote that when one door of happiness closes, another opens — but so often we stare so long at the closed one that we never notice the one standing open right beside it.
Maybe a door closed for you recently. Retirement closed the door on a career that told you who you were. A diagnosis closed the door on how you used to move through the world. A loss closed a door you never imagined would shut. That grief is real, and you're allowed to stand in front of it and mourn for as long as you need.
But Keller — who had more doors slammed on her than almost anyone in history — is telling you something worth hearing this morning: there's another door open right now, somewhere close by. You just haven't turned around to see it yet, because your eyes are still fixed on the one that closed.

A simple step for today:
Write down one door that's closed in your life, and one that might be open that you haven't walked through yet. Then ask yourself: what would happen if I turned the knob on the open one?
Reflection question:
Which door have you been staring at longest — the one that closed, or the one that's quietly been open the whole time?
Turn around. That's your morning step.
